In the next few years, we will look back at this period in our lives and marvel at ways society has managed to rise again from the ashes of this pandemic. We will be amazed by ideas that changed society. Those ideas are in this 51st issue of Fast Company (SA) magazine.

They are not just ideas, they are World Changing Ideas. Naturally, when we think about ideas we want to know about the people behind them. One person who stood out when we looked at people who came up with World-Changing Ideas is Elon Musk – who is on our cover for this issue. This American-based entrepreneur was born in a country, South Africa and continent (Africa), with people who know how to use ideas to get out of their misery. We feature some of the outstanding ideas that are taking people from a difficult situation to a better place.

We have designed this issue with the hope that it will inspire you to only come with ideas but act on them. It is for this reason that we want you to share with us the idea that you’ve implemented during the lockdown in South Africa. We will be dedicating a section of Fast Company (SA) digital magazine to the ideas that you’ve implemented.

We are interested in World-Changing Ideas that have the potential to make a difference. Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas digital magazine will focus on products, concepts, companies, policies, and designs that are pursuing innovation for the good of society and the planet. The magazine issue has in the past focused on everything from large companies’ sustainability initiatives to clever consumer products to groundbreaking government policies. There are many problems in the world, and we are interested in innovative ideas that solve any of them. Feel free to share your implemented World Changing Ideas with us via [email protected] and the #WorldChangingIdeas hashtag.

For now, we don’t just want people to marvel at the ideas, we want to encourage people to support your idea with one or two resources that will make it a reality and impactful beyond just your home or local environment. Over the next few months, we will be sharing with you the journey of those who are implementing their ideas. In 2022 we will be hosting our first World-Changing Ideas Showcase at a local museum to present ideas developed during this difficult period of our lives. As you read this magazine remember to keep it for future generations to see what it took to get us out of this difficult time of our lives.
