A project that will make use of unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones, has been launched by Unicef and the Malawian government to carry out humanitarian efforts in the country and eventually the rest of the world.

First piloted in 2016, the first-of-its-kind air corridor is based at the Kasungu Aerodrome in central Malawi and provides a controlled platform for the private sector, universities and other partners to explore how drones can be used to help deliver services that will benefit communities.

The Humanitarian UAV Testing Corridor will run for at least one year, until June 2018.
